Laser Hair Reduction

Laser Hair Reduction

Permanent Hair Reduction:
At The Skin Clinic, we use the diode LASER (the gold standard LASER for permanent hair reduction internationally). Treatment with this LASER is effective, permanent and safe. It is painless with no need for local anaesthesia. It can be used effectively on all body areas.

Treatment takes several cycles (usually 6-9 cycles) for permanent hair reduction of upto 90%.
There are many options for hair removal. Threading, waxing, shaving, use of depilatory creams to name but a few. All of them are however temporary with neither long term nor permanent reduction. They simply pull away the hair from the root and results last until the hair grows back.

The only option for long-term permanent hair reduction is use of LASERs. Many options such as IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), Long Pulsed Nd Yag LASERs etc have been used for permanent hair reduction but the LASER that has emerged as the gold standard globally for effective hair reduction is the diode LASER. The diode LASER emits red light at a wavelength of 810nm. This wavelength offers the best combination of effectiveness and minimal side effects.

The Root Of The Problem

Hair grows in cycles, and many factors influence its growth, Age, ethnicity, medications, hormones levels, and even location of the hair on the body influence the length, coarseness and colour of hair .

1
  • Anagen is the active growing phase in which the hair bulb is intact. The hair grows in both directions, upward and downwards
  • Catagen is the regression phase when the lower part of the hair stops growing but is not shed, and the body absorbs the lower third of the follicle.
  • Telogen is the resting phase. The hair bulb is no longer present and is now a club hair which will fall out or be pushed out of the follicle by the new anagen growing hair.

Laser Roots It Out For Good

Laser hair removal is a non invasive procedure, by which unwanted hair are removed from any part of the body by utilizing a long pulsed laser.

The laser parameters are carefully defined by studying the anatomy of the hair follicle and precisely matching the laser light and pulse duration to the follicle size, depth and location to inhibit the re-growth of the hair. Laser hair removal technique helps in facial hair removal and permanent hair removal.

Laser hair removal is performed by a specially – trained laser technician or a doctor, who directs the light of a long pulsed laser onto the skin. Since other hair will enter their growth cycle at different times, several sessions are necessary to destroy all the follicles in a treatment area.

Suitable For All??

Both men and women seek laser hair removal to get unwanted hair removed. Hair removal is commonly done on the hairline, eyebrow, top of the nose, side burn, upper & lower lip, chin, ear lobe, face, neck, nape, shoulders, back,, underarm, abdomen, buttocks, public area, bikini lines, thighs, breast, arms, legs, hands, and toes.

How does the LASER treatment work?

The LASER works on anagen hair (growing hair which constitute about 80% of hair in any area). The light is absorbed by the pigment in the base of the hair follicle which then heats up and destroys the cells which form the hair shaft.

How many sessions does one need?

This is highly variable. Areas like the underarms and bikini areas respond very well and in about 6 sessions one could expect a 90% longterm permanent reduction in hair. Areas such as the legs, back and arms are also very responsive. The face often requires more sessions but typically in about 9 sessions, one can expect a good reduction.

Is the LASER painless?

The LASER session is associated with a slight pricking sensation in the skin. It feels like the bite of a mosquito. Most people are very comfortable and some even fall off to sleep. The only area where people require a numbing gel is the bikini area as the skin in that area is highly sensitive.

Does the LASER work on everyone?

The LASER works better on fairer skin types and coarse dark hair. It does not work on fine hair or grey hair. If the skin is pigmented, the LASER still works but will need to be done carefully as risks are higher. If you have excessive facial hair, then hormonal imbalances need to be looked for. In case of some hormonal imbalances like PCOS, several sessions are usually required.

What are the side effects?

The side effects are minimal. Temporary redness, slight bumpiness of the skin, a tingling sensation and warmth in the area treated could last upto 24 hours. The only side effect to worry about is a LASER burn which is very uncommon in experienced hands.

Lasting Reduction

The US : FDA has approved the process as “Permanent Reduction” which means that one shouldn’t expect laser to remove every single hair from an area. Some might need touch up treatments once or twice a year after the initial set of treatments for any new growth the body may develop.

At Dr Lahoti Skin & Laser clinic,We use the Milesman premium diode laser –One platform which is currently considered the most powerful Diode LASER.
